Maria Hummitzsch (Deutschland)

Maria Hummitzsch, born in 1982, studied translation, psychology and African studies in Leipzig, Lisbon and Florianopolis. Since 2011 she has been working as a literary translator from Portuguese and English and has translated works by Imbolo Mbue, Masande Ntshanga, Chinelo Okparanta and Ay'b'mi Adébéy, among others.
Maria Hummitzsch also works as a presenter and facilitator. Since 2017, she holds the position of Deputy Chair of the German Association of Literary Translators, Verband der Literaturübersetzer*innen (VdÜ). In 2015, she founded the Translators’ Centre at the Leipzig Book Fair, which she co-curates with Franka Reinhart and Thomas Weiler. Most recently, on behalf of the German Translator Fund (DÜF), she led one of the " In zwei Sprachen zuhause“ workshops (https://inzweisprachenzuhause.org/page/2/) for refugee children.
Maria Hummitzsch lives with her partner and daughter in Leipzig.
